Self-Sponsored Ryanair Type Courses

Oxford Aviation Academy runs a series of self-sponsored Ryanair Type courses for individuals interested in advancing their careers using this route. Ryanair is the fastest growing low cost carrier in Europe, with over 50 million passengers carried in 2007 alone. Ryanair now has 23 bases and 556 routes that cover destinations across 24 European countries, flying a fleet of 146 B737-800 aircraft with an average aircraft age of only two years.

Pilots with very little or no airline experience can join Ryanair as a cadet. Successful candidates are then offered an opportunity to fly for Ryanair on a full time basis following successful completion of the B737-800 type rating course. Run in conjunction with Scandinavian Aviation Academy, which is responsible for programme recruitment, these Ryanair Type courses are based at our state-of-the art TRTO facilities in Stockholm-Arlanda. Course conducted in Sweden are not subject to VAT, representing a considerable cost saving for individuals of any nationality. For Swedish nationals, government grants and further financial assistance is also available.

The Ryanair Type Rating Qualification course takes approximately six to seven weeks to complete, excluding base and line training. There are two major components of the course - ground training and simulator training. Ground training consists of Computer Based Training (CBT) on systems and equipment, written theoretical examinations, Flight Management System (FMS) sessions and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) training etc Simulator training consists of a minimum of 40 hours training in the simulator in preparation for the crew skills test on the B737-800.
